The Saints have hit the halfway point at 5-3. Furthermore, the defensive improvements have been tremendous. Also, the defense ranks in the top 10 in yards given up and turnover ratio. Wade Phillips has come in and has totally revamped the defense. His presence alone has changed the way the defense looks in 2017. One of the biggest differences is the confidence of the secondary of knowing where to be on every play. The big plays are simply not happening this year. The names may be the same on the uniforms, but the know how is 100% different.

After starting off 3-0, the Saints looked dominant against the Miami Dolphins in London. However, the Redskins came into town after the bye week and dropped the Saints to 5-3. The Saints could have been 6-2 if they took care of business at home but instead now find themselves fighting other teams for playoff contention.

The next eight games will be critical. Not only for 2017, but going into the future. The Black and Gold seems to be heading for a winning season. Although fans are more than likely feeling cautiously optimistic. Who Dat Nation has been duped before. Hopefully, the past is the past.
