If Fournette is on the board, there’s no way the Saints pass on him. The buzz after this pick will simply inject a rush of adrenaline like never before. Having Fournette in the backfield could actually keep Drew Brees playing in New Orleans for 2-3 years. Elway had Terrell Davis and helped him win two Super Bowls.
If Sean Payton wants to stay in New Orleans with Drew Brees for another two or three years then balance will be the key ingredient to be considered. Brees is no “spring chicken” anymore. At the same time, Brees is once again in the last year of his contract. More than ever, the Saints will have to get a running back to start balancing out the offense.
If that doesn’t happen, Brees will continue to throw for 5,000 yards but no Lombardi Trophies will come back to the “Big Easy.” This in my opinion will be a travesty. Having a Hall of Famer at your dispense in the same uniform for over 10 years is a luxury. This is a once in a lifetime chance to get another ring. A new philosophy must be implemented in 2017. The balanced offense will be hard for Sean Payton to wanna swallow, but it’s the best route for the Saints to take.
