Quarterback

Drew Brees, Luke McCown

Drew Brees is the unquestioned and unheralded starter for the New Orleans Saints, which hasn’t changed since 2006. Brees, who turned 37 in January, still shows the signs of one of the league’s best quarterbacks. Sadly, not everyone sees it that way. For several seasons, national analysts have anticipated a drop-off in production, but Brees delightfully keeps proving them wrong.

Luke McCown, who is entering his 13th season, heads in with familiar backup duties that he’s held onto since joining the Saints in 2013. As a veteran familiar with the playbook, McCown has the favor of head coach Sean Payton. When in doubt, track history has shown Payton’s trust goes to veterans backing up Drew Brees. McCown’s job is relatively safe, but he will face strong outside competition.

As for Garrett Grayson, this is his time – but he has to prove it. The second-year quarterback finds himself in a prime position to become the primary backup to Drew Brees. However, he must win the job.
