According to ESPN’s Field Yates and The Advocate’s Joel Erickson, the New Orleans Saints are adding defensive end Darryl Tapp and waiving tight end Jack Tabb.

The report came out on Monday morning, and was officially announced by the New Orleans Saints. Darryl Tapp is heading to the Big Easy to battle for a roster spot.

Tapp was originally a second-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2006, and spent his first four seasons with the team before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 in exchange for Chris Clemons and a fourth-round pick.

Tapp, who will turn 32 in September, played in 419 snaps for the Detroit Lions in 2015. He also played in all 16 games, finishing with 26 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. The veteran is a strong run defender, and should compete for playing time for Dennis Allen’s squad.

It’s entirely possible that this could be a corresponding move to compensate for the loss of Hau’oli Kikaha, who is widely feared to be out for the season due to a torn ACL. However, no official roster move has been made to send the second-year player to injured reserve.

Jack Tabb’s quick journey with the Saints appears to be over again. Tabb was reportedly to be waived after the team whiffed on the Connor Shaw waiver claim. It just goes to show you that you can’t always read into what is said on players. Just in February, general manager Mickey Loomis made it a point to talk about Tabb on SiriusXM NFL Radio when asked about potentially giving up on Josh Hill. The team had seven tight ends on the roster, and now it looks like Tabb is the odd man out.
