Tip #2: Don’t forget to be a fan

If you are anything like me and feel the need to over analyze absolutely everything, then you probably just realized that this is in direct opposition to the first tip. Here’s the thing. We need to all try to stay levelheaded and not buy into the hype too much, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the whole experience. Football is a game, and it’s a joy to watch, and I know for me personally one of the most fun things as a fan is to envision what could be.

Don’t go crazy, and don’t convince yourself that someone is going to be a star until they give you reason to believe it, but also don’t lose HOPE that they could become stars. The New Orleans Saints have produced tons of rising stars who shocked the world, made the team, and became household names both within the fan base and outside. Remember names like Pierre Thomas, Marques Colston, Chris Ivory, Delvin Breaux, Lance Moore, and even Dustin Hopkins (still mad at the Saints for that one).

Beyond the stars we have also seen dozens of young prospects nearly make the roster, and some of them have made it in later years after being on the practice squad. That’s half the fun of the offseason, as the games don’t count and nothing is for sure until the final 53 are chosen.

Enjoy the experience. If a guy comes out and shows flashes and makes some great plays…GET HYPED FOR HIM! These guys are fighting to live their dream, and every single player out there wants to make the team and help the Saints win another Super Bowl (that’s right Falcons and Panthers fans…WE can say ANOTHER). They all want the same thing we do, so enjoy the experience, let yourself get a little excited, don’t get too amped up, but enjoy the experience.
