Quarterbacks (3)

  1. Drew Brees #9
  2. Luke McCown #7
  3. Garrett Grayson #18

The lack of big improvements from Garrett Grayson is a huge concern.  I understand that he’s seeing new things from Dennis Allen’s diverse defensive line fronts and unique coverage combinations, but the 25-year old passer should be further along by now.  His mechanics looked off when I saw him play live last week, which is problematic from a second-year quarterback.  Hopefully it’s nothing more than lingering effects from his 2014 clavicle injury, and he’ll make strides soon.

In a perfect world Grayson’s unseated Luke McCown to be the primary backup, which would allow the Saints roster to carry another player at another important position like offensive line or defensive back, or even a luxury like a fourth tight end.  But that’s not where we are, and his slow development may have bigger ramifications down the road.  Will the Saints draft another young quarterback to try and succeed Drew Brees someday?
