It’s been a fun and interesting day thus far for the New Orleans Saints, and it’s not over yet. Per the International Sports Agency, the team has added San Jose State University cornerback Jimmy Pruitt.

The 6-foot, 198-pound California native spent all four seasons with the Spartans from 2012-2015. He turned in a 4.73 second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, and was a top performer among cornerbacks with 19 bench press reps. Pruitt also had a 32-inch vertical jump and 117-inch broad jump.

Pruitt played 47 games for the Spartans, totaling 181 tackles, 7 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, 3 forced fumbles, and 15 pass defenses. He also has experience at safety, where he played at during 2013.

Here’s some notes from his NFL Draft Profile:

"BOTTOM LINEConsistent three-year starter who plays with a good head on his shoulders when it comes to coverage responsibilities. Pruitt shows a good feel for space and keying the quarterback’s eyes from zone coverage and he’s always around his responsibility in man coverage. However, his man coverage could be a little tighter, his speed could be better and his tackling could be more aggressive. Likely third-day option with backup potential."

Pruitt was at Houston Texans rookie minicamp last weekend, and actually impressed as columnist John Harris noted. In a crowded secondary that desperately needs help, the New Orleans Saints will want to get the best players possible. Pruitt has good marks as a press corner, and allowed only one touchdown on his last 103 targets.

The Saints have several question marks of their own from potential health concerns with Keenan Lewis (multiple surgeries) and Damian Swann (concussion). P.J. Williams (hamstring) is coming back for what hopes to be his first full season, but the Saints’ cornerback situation is wide open for someone like Pruitt to come in and push for a role.
