The 5 most intriguing New Orleans Saints undrafted free agents

Jeff Schoettmer, LB, North Carolina
The weak side linebacker competition is wide open for the New Orleans Saints. After Dannell Ellerbe, you can’t definitively say that there’s one single linebacker that pencils himself him as the backup. That bodes well for Jeff Schoettmer, who knows all about what it’s like to work hard for what you want most.
After playing three sports (baseball, football, basketball) in every year at Jesuit College Prep in Dallas, Schoettmer made his mark as an all-state defensive back. He spent two of his last years at safety, and was a standout on his team. His hard work ethic landed him a scholarship as a walk-on at UNC.
Although he’s listed as a middle linebacker, he clearly demonstrates an ability in coverage, which is something the Saints desperately need.
