Hatcher, a Louisiana native (Alexandria) and Grambling State (LA) product, was selected in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent seven seasons before joining their NFC East rival Redskins in 2014.
He was used mainly as a rotational defensive lineman in Dallas, making his first true start in 2010. He found the most success playing defensive tackle, with his best season coming in 2013, a Pro Bowl campaign in which he tallied 41 combined tackles, 11 sacks, three pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.

However, his production dipped after Washington signed him and used him as a defensive end. From 2014-15, Hatcher totaled just 7.5 sacks, 45 combined tackles, two passed defended, and a forced fumble.
The New Orleans Saints have been very quiet since the free agency period kicked off, with the exception of the Coby Fleener signing. Linebacker Craig Robertson came in for a visit Monday, and now, with Hatcher reportedly in town, we’re finally seeing some activity (if that’s what you want to call it).
Jason Hatcher, 33, may not be a sexy name, but he could be a nice, low-key addition to the New Orleans Saints’ roster, brining experience and a proven track record. With the very little money the Saints actually have to spend, shopping in the bargain bin for guys like Robertson and Hatcher is about all they can do.
Adding depth on the defensive line is without question a priority for the Saints. The 6-foot-6, 299-pound, position-versatile Jason Hatcher could certainly help.
