Name: Deion Jones
School: LSU
Position: OLB
Size: 6-foot-1, 219 LBS
Projected Round: 3

Deion Jones heads to the scouting as one of the most overlooked and underrated players on the defensive side of the ball in this rookie class.  Also undersized, Jones plays bigger than he actually is and boasts exceptional athleticism, chasing down ball carriers while also moving like a safety in coverage.

He could afford to bulk up, but despite being a bit underweight, his strength, power and explosiveness outweigh his size, making him another ideal candidate to come in and play the weakside for the New Orleans Saints.

He only started one year at LSU, so his inexperience may cause him to slide down in the draft process, but somebody should get a real steal here.  The Saints rarely draft local talent, but they may reconsider their approach if Jones performs like I think he will at the combine.  This is a very special athlete with a very high ceiling at the next level.

From LSUSports.net:

"CAREER Played in 51 games in his career at LSU, starting 11 times … Finished career with 165 tackles, 21.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks … Added 11 quarterback hurries, two pass interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble … Had best year of career as a senior in 2015 as he was named one of five finalist nationally for the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker … Participant in the 2016 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. … Named permanent team captain for LSU’s 2015 team as well as being selected as a defensive MVP for the Tigers."
