Name: Vernon Butler
School: Louisiana Tech
Position: DT
Size: 6-foot-3, 325 LBS
Projected round: 1-2

If the New Orleans Saints are looking to draft an in-state player (rare, but you never know), then they should look no further than Vernon Butler, who shot up into the first round on countless mock drafts after a spectacular showing at the Senior Bowl, where he often manhandled his blockers at practice.

Powerful at the point of attack, coordinated, and quick off the snap while also boasting a massive frame to go along with a fiery motor, Butler seems to have the talents to excel at the next level.

You may not get much sack production from him (he has the tools develop), but his awareness, agility, and strength to control blockers give him the ability to both disrupt the backfield and chase down ball carriers.  He’ll need to learn to consistently lower his pad level and improve the flexibility in his legs, however, he has shown flashes of his potential when he uses his body correctly.  The Saints could get a real gem here.
