Again, the New Orleans Saints need to upgrade their defensive line presence.  The production Bullard, whose game should continue to improve at the next level, can bring could be of tremendous value from the moment he steps onto the field in the NFL.

He is a bit underweight to be a traditional defensive tackle, but he has the frame to bulk up and add some weight.  He also possesses the versatility and flexibility to play along the entire defensive front, and the Saints could without question use an additional pass-rushing presence opposite Cam Jordan.

Bullard is explosive off the snap and plays with a relentless motor.  He uses a variety of moves to shed blockers to get around the edge, while also using his impressive lower-body strength to overpower his opponents on the inside to get into the backfield to eat up the ball carrier.

He is a first-round talent, but the emergence of a handful of defensive linemen at the Senior Bowl, including Jarran Reed, Louisiana Tech’s Vernon Butler and Lousville’s Sheldon Rankins, could cause him to drop down during the selection process, but not too far.  Pick 12 is a reach and 47 may be too late, but if he’s still there in the second, he could definitely pay off.  His combine performance will be the determining factor.
