In Week 8 of the season, Brees tied an NFL record by throwing 7 total touchdowns against the New York Giants in a 52-49 win. In addition to lighting up the scoreboard, Brees threw for 505 yards on 39 completions. He also turned in a 131.7 quarterback rating.
Brees, who was the subject of carrying a washed up label by many media outlets heading into the season, overcame a serious shoulder injury and a torn plantar fascia in his right foot that he toughed out to play ‘for his guys’. Although the New Orleans Saints finished with a disappointing 7-9 season, Brees’ Week 8 performance will go down as one of the best games of his career.
Brees was up against Antonio Brown, Stephen Gostkowski, Jameis Winston, and Khalil Mack.
In other news, San Francisco’s Anquan Boldin beat out Benjamin Watson for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Brees was previously beat out for the FedEx Air Performer of the Year Award by Arizona’s Carson Palmer. Also, Morten Andersen did not make it into the 2016 Hall of Fame, but the late Kenny Stabler and Dick Stanfel (who were a part of the Saints franchise), were selected. Andersen didn’t even make the Top 10 cut.
