Oct 17, 2015; Starkville, MS, USA; Mississippi State Bulldogs wide receiver De’Runnya Wilson /

NFL Draft prospect: De’Runnya Wilson
School: Mississippi State
Size: 6-foot-5, 215 LBS
My round projection: 2-3

At an ideal and overwhelming size for the receiver position, Wilson immediately stands out among most of the incoming rookie class.  He was a two-sport athlete at Mississippi State, playing basketball (Mr. Basketball in Alabama in 2013) in addition to football.

The Saints are in need of a big red-zone target and Wilson fits the manuscript.  He’s big, tall, strong, explosive, and has soft hands as a reliable catcher.  Thanks to his basketball experience, he has the skills to go up and contest for the jump ball — an ideal trait to possess in the end zone.

Wilson won’t blow you away with top-end speed and shifty movements as a savvy route runner, but he will still use his strength and athleticism to overpower defenders and/or create separation.

If he can work on his routes and blocking, he has the skillset to thrive at the next level.  However, New Orleans tends to pass on players with character issues.  It’s nothing major, but Wilson was arrested almost a year ago on suspicion of marijuana possession, which could cause him to fall down the draft board.  He has grown both on and off the field ever since.

"Was eighth in the SEC in catches (60), sixth in yards (918), seventh in catches per game (4.6) and sixth in yards per game (70.6) … Became just the second player in school history to catch double-digit touchdowns in a season, just two shy of the school record"
