When it comes to pass protection, Boone is one of the most enticing options in the upcoming free agency period.  And again, at 37-years-old, Drew Brees needs the proper guardianship, particularly on his blindside, to continue to play at a high level.

Tim Lelito is not a terrible left guard.  He just doesn’t boast the consistency to be a true starter in the NFL.  Boone, on the other hand, is very good and would be an immediate upgrade on the offensive line.  Imagine him between Terron Armstead and Max Unger — that’s a solid three.

After being named to two-consecutive Pro Bowls as an alternate, Boone’s asking price may be a little steep, but it shouldn’t be anything substantial.  Plus, if the Saints truly want another shot at a championship before Brees’ time is up, they better do all they can to keep him safe, even if that means spending some money.
