The 2015 NFL Draft

After turning in years of bad picking, the New Orleans Saints hired Jeff Irleand as their college scouting director and assistant general manager last offseason.  All of a sudden, they had their most successful draft in several years.

Yes, drafting productive, franchise players has been a huge problem, and it’s beginning to show on the field.  You know it’s a big issue when a large percentage of players who were drafted just a few years ago aren’t even on the team anymore.

Highlighted by linebackers, Stephone Anthony and Hau’oli Kikaha, 2015 was a fantastic rookie class for the Saints.  Both rookies seem to be key building blocks for the future of this organization, especially Anthony, who was just named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

Between Anthony and Kikaha, emerging offensive lineman Andrus Peat, defensive tackle Tyeler Davison, and cornerback Damian Swann (hopefully the concussion problems are in the past), the Saints look to hopefully have a bright future with their young guys.

We’ve yet to see what cornerback P.J. Williams and linebacker Davis Tull can do after spending the season on injured reserve.  The ceilings are high for both players.  Maybe quarterback Garrett Grayson will even fill in nicely after Drew Brees is gone?  Only time will tell, but for now, No. 9 is the man in the Big Easy.  Still, it’s nice to see the Saints finally strike gold in the draft.
