NFL Network insider Rand Getlin is reporting that New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston will not play on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Not having the services of Colston could have been an indication when the Saints promoted Seantavius Jones from the practice squad to the active roster on Thursday. Colston, who has a chest injury, missed practice on Thursday and was marked as questionable for the game on Friday’s injury report.
It’s unfortunate that Marques Colston would miss what could be his last game in the black and gold in front of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome crowd. Colston will turn 33 in June, and his 2016 contract could save the Saints $3.2 million in salary cap space. During Monday Night Football, Colston and Drew Brees hooked up for their 72nd career touchdown.
Colston has 45 receptions for 520 yards, and 4 touchdowns this season. He needs just 241 yards over the last two games to eclipse the 10,000-yard mark in his career.
Assuming Colston doesn’t play, the Saints will roll with Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead, Brandon Coleman, and Seantavius Jones. Brees remains questionable, as per the Saints final injury report.
