Zach Strief

Zach Strief has had a very tough year, and it could cost him when it’s all said and done. Strief has given up 17 quarterback hurries this season so far, which is tied with Tim Lelito for the team high. He’s also credited with the most sacks on Drew Brees (6) and quarterback hurries (9). To add insult to injury, Strief also has the most penalties (6) of any offensive player currently. If you’re looking at some good, he does have high marks in the run blocking department, with a strong +5.0 grade. However, if you’re gonna pass it more than you run, protection is pretty important.

Strief is scheduled to count $4.6 million towards next season’s salary cap, and the team could save $1.3 million by parting ways with him. There aren’t many options in terms of free agency currently, in case you are wondering. The Andrus Peat experiment at guard has been showing improvement, but a return to right tackle would be extremely likely with Strief out of the mix. After all, that was the original plan for Sean Payton when they drafted Peat as the 13th overall pick.
