5. Acknowledge the rookies

If there’s one positive from the New Orleans Saints’ offseason, it’s the rookie class.  Highlighted by a solid draft and the free agent signing of New Orleans native and former CFL star Delvin Breaux, the team did well with a handful of first-year guys.

To name a few, linebacker Stephone Anthony leads the team in tackles, Hau’oli Kikaha could be transforming into a pass-rushing specialist, and Breaux is playing at a near-Pro Bowl level.  Before suffering Week 5 and Week 8 concussions, cornerback Damian Swann was looking like a pleasant surprise.  Even seventh-round pick Marcus Murphy emerged as a threat in the return game.

The quick learning and solid play from the young guys at the NFL level forecast well for the future, so at least that’s something to smile about.  Fans can only hope the Saints continue to pick well in the coming drafts for a quicker, more efficient rebuilding process.
