Believe it or not, these two squared off twice in a matter of three weeks. The first round went to the Saints. The matchup was flexed to Sunday Night Football to replace the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons game. The Saints didn’t disappoint during prime time.
After two early Graham Gano field goals, the Saints offense caught fire, rattling off 31 unanswered points. Drew Brees found Marques Colston (9-125-2TD) on back-to-back touchdown receptions of 6 and 15 yards, and then Jimmy Graham to end the half.
Garrett Hartley would add a 3rd Quarter field goal to put the black and gold up 24-6, and then the ‘killshot’ came in the 4th Quarter after Brees found Graham again. Cam Newton was sacked 5 times on the night, twice by Cameron Jordan and thrice by Junior Galette.
Brees finished the game 30-for-42, 313 yards, and 4 touchdown passes. The Saints would move to 10-3, while the Panthers dropped to 9-4. However, Carolina would even up the score on December 22, 2013.
