2. The defensive tackle battle

Since taking his talents to the Big Easy in 2012 via free agency, Brodrick Bunkley has been nothing but disappointing.  Injuries and inconsistency highlight his subpar career as a Saint.  John Jenkins has showed promising flashes, but he’s also proven to be a bit inconsistent.

After that, we’re looking at Lawrence Virgil, an inexperienced Valdosta State product with just one game under his belt.  The Saints went all in on defense this year, spending six of their nine draft picks in that department.

All eyes are on Tyeler Davison — an incredibly undervalued fifth-round pick from Fresno State.  He’s got the size and skill set to immediately compete for playing time.  This kid screams future of this defensive front.

The Saints went ahead and added three more undrafted rookies for competition purposes.  Texas-San Antonio DT Ashaad Mabry will get his chance to showcase his talents at the next level.

After that, we’re looking at two more guys with a real shot — Indiana DT Bobby Richardson (surprisingly went undrafted) and Mississippi State DT Kaleb Eulls.  There are no excuses for what happened along the defensive front a season ago.  Can one of these new faces be the difference maker?
