The New Orleans Saints stayed true to their word in gathering talent for their defense by selecting Washington outside linebacker Hau’oli Kikaha, with the 44th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
It was a surprise for Kikaha to be selected early in the second round. Kikaha didn’t have the most impressive pro day and had to prove to scouts that he could be just as effective rushing the passer as he was before he tore two ACLs over the past two years.
While he may not have proved his talent through drills, the Saints saw something else; the elite edge rusher who led the Huskies in sacks and has a similar skillset to Green Bay’s Clay Matthews.
Fans, players, and media alike reacted to the Saints third pick on Twitter:
The New Orleans addressed a pressing need at OLB, a linebacker that can be effective rushing the passer and has the athleticism to be a factor on passing downs.
Who Dat Nation has a firm trust in GM Mickey Loomis and Head Coach Sean Payton. They believe that Kikaha can be the player that he was for the Washington Huskies.
Welcome to the Big Easy Hau’oli Kikaha!
