Looking back at 2014, the New Orleans Saints were clearly a 7-9 team with gaping holes throughout.  After some maintenance this offseason via the free agent market, the Black and Gold will now turn to their nine picks in the upcoming NFL Draft to hopefully complete the job.

Excluding the past couple of drafts, head coach Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis have been quite good at discovering those hidden gems that wind up paying off — WR Marques Colston (7th round), All-Pro guard Jahri Evans (4th round) and dual-threat RB Pierre Thomas (undrafted) to name a few.

I’m liking the addition of former Miami Dolphins‘ GM Jeff Ireland this offseason.  He’s had some pretty good drafts in the past, and adding another voice alongside Payton and Loomis could really show some improvement from the last couple of seasons.

With the 2015 NFL Draft being just over a week away, here a five potential late-round gems the New Orleans Saints may want to consider when they’re on the clock in Chicago.
