This has indeed been arguably the craziest New Orleans Saints offseason in recent memory, reminiscent to 2006, and it should be. 2014 was a discouraging mess on all ends of the spectrum. From heartbreaking cuts to mind-blowing trades, to the acquisitions of some incredible talents, the Black and Gold and their bag of tricks have yet to fail once again during free agency.
It was tough for fans and players to say goodbye to Pierre Thomas, Curtis Lofton, Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills, but at the end of the day, the NFL is a business. However, the excitement floating around running back C.J. Spiller and corner Brandon Browner is beginning to settle in nicely.
Of course, we can’t forget about Pro Bowl center Max Unger to help protect the Saints All-Pro quarterback in Drew Brees while linebacker Dannell Ellerbe looks to add a spark on the defensive side of the ball.
So while head coach Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis continue to pull rabbits out of their hats, here are five things we’ve learned from free agency in the Crescent City up to this point.
