#3 Shane Ray, Edge defender, Missouri
Shane Ray posted double-digit sacks in 2014 after being promoted to a starting role at the “D-line U.” Lined up as a 4-3 end, Ray beat offensive lineman on a weekly basis thanks to a blazing first step and a relentless motor.
Despite those traits, the Missouri native does not project well into the NFL. A lack of size and strength will force him into the outside linebacker role in a 3-4 alignment. That position requires tremendous athleticism which the 21- year old simply does not possess. He barely ever dropped back into coverage and mediocre hand usage and run-stopping ability could keep him from being an impact player in the near future. Widely regarded as a top-10 pick, I would not feel comfortable picking this prospect inside the first 25 selections.
