Browner was with the New England Patriots in 2014, but after refusing to take a pay cut, the Pats reportedly declined to pick up his $2 million option. The 30-year-old defensive back is now a free agent and was apparently drawing interest from Sean Payton and company Tuesday night.
The 6-foot-4 corner has dealt with a number of injury and suspension issues over the past few seasons, but when healthy and well-behaved, Brandon Browner has proven to be one of the top cover guys in the NFL. His physicality is a plus, but it has also led to a high amount of penalties, which is something that will have to be worked on if he does join Sean Payton and company.
After Garafolo’s tweet yesterday, it is being reported here on Wednesday that he is currently visiting New Orleans, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.
He is a back-to-back Super Bowl champion, hoisting the Lombardi Trophy most recently with the Patriots and before that with the Seattle Seahawks. In 45 games played, Browner has tallied 142 combined tackles, 45 passes defended, 11 interceptions, three forced fumbles and two defensive touchdowns.
Assuming he stays healthy, his man-to-man presence opposite Keenan Lewis (that is if he isn’t released) would without doubt drastically improve the Saints’ struggling secondary. Brandon Browner would be a top-notch acquisition in the Big Easy.
