Soon after the news of LB Parys Haralson re-signing with the New Orleans Saints, it is being reported that veteran kicker Shayne Graham will also return for another season after agreeing on terms to a new one-year deal.
Graham joined the Saints towards during the playoffs of the 2013 season after spending time with various teams across the NFL. He initially signed with New Orleans as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech following the 2000 NFL Draft, but was waived before the regular season kicked off.
He spent the majority of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals where he hold numerous franchise records. He is the Bengals’ title holder for most field goals in a single season (31), most field goals in a game (7), highest FG percentage in a season (91.2), highest career FG percentage and most points in a season (131).
Shayne Graham has played in 18 total games for the New Orleans Saints, drilling 21 of 24 kicks and 53 of 54 extra points. He actually sits at No. 35 all-time on the NFL career points list.
While he may not have a booming boot like he once did, Graham is accurate, affordable and he presents a sense of veteran leadership both on and off the field. However, he is still very far from securing the starting job in 2015 — he’ll likely be competing with some fresh faces at training camp.
