Jason Pierre-Paul, or JPP, is an exceptional defensive end. However, inconsistencies around him might suggest a further look. JPP did finish with 12.5 sacks in 2014, but 9 of those came in the final five games of the season against ‘not so good’ teams (Jaguars, Titans, Redskins, Rams, Eagles). Prior to that, Pierre-Paul had 8.5 sacks combined for 2012 and 2013.

A franchise tag of Pierre-Paul could be as expensive as $15 million for the Giants in 2015, but the argument can clearly be made that he’s not going to draw a huge contract figure because of the inconsistent play.

Those looking for an answer at defensive end for the Saints, I simply say this. After one down season from defensive ends Akiem Hicks and Cameron Jordan, I’m not ready to suggest a complete overhaul of the defensive line. You shouldn’t either.

The Saints have a laundry list of needs to address in just a short time frame, and the first priority remains to get under the league’s salary cap prior to March 10 at 3:00PM CST.

While it feels like an eternity to some, it’ll be here before you know it.
