The Saints definitely need an outside linebacker in 2015. There’s just no other way to put it. Sack leader Junior Galette is currently facing legal issues, and as of now, the only outside linebackers on the roster are second year players Kasim Edebali and Ronald Powell.
Jason Worilds is going to be a hot commodity when free agency begins. He was retained via a transition tag from the Steelers last year, and could be kept again through a franchise tag. That’s not necessarily what Worilds wants. For a guy that consistently played better, he’s looking for some major deniro.
Worilds graded out as 11th out of 46 eligible OLBs as per Pro Football Focus. However, he won’t be the only outside linebacker looking to cash in (see Justin Houston).
The Saints can easily use their 13th overall selection in the draft to target an prospect that can evolve with the team, and that’s likely their smartest course of action. Prospects Shane Ray, Shaq Thompson, Alvin Dupree, Dante Fowler Jr., and Vic Beasley all figure to be in play for the Saints.
