Free agency is set to kick off in March, giving teams and players the green light on the negotiating process. RB Mark Ingram is the New Orleans Saints most notable free agent and a recent Pro Bowl addition.
Katherine Terrell of NOLA.com sent out a tweet Thursday afternoon regarding Ingram’s return to the Big Easy. The running back is expected to test the market, but GM Mickey Loomis will likely work hard to get the team back under the cap and financially accommodate the club’s top rusher since Deuce McAllister in 2006. If I had to guess, Ingram spoke about the situation after being asked during Pro Bowl festivities in Arizona.
He missed three games this year due to a broken hand he suffered in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns, but was still able to accumulate 964 yards and nine touchdowns on 226 carries — his best season since being taken No. 28 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Black and Gold.
He began to find his step at the end of his 2013 campaign, starting 2014 right where he left off and becoming a vital part of an offense that finished first in the league. Working out a deal is crucial for the future of the organization, especially with Drew Brees nearing his end.
