As the New Orleans Saints gear up for what figures to be another highly entertaining offseason, we can’t help but wonder what it will bring. Last year felt like a fairly distraction free few months. The Saints did not have to worry about the after effects of Bounty Gate, Sean Payton had a year under his belt after coming back from his suspension, and the 2013 Saints (11-5) closed the year out on a positive note, despite losing to the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional playoffs.
We all felt good facing 2014. The team was labeled as a Super Bowl contender by many. How could we not? The Saints landed the absolute top free agent out there. Though familiar faces left, old ones were brought in to give us a sense of security. Maturity figured to help the team ultimately develop into contenders. It felt as though nothing could stop the Saints from a date with another Lombardi trophy.
Sadly, nothing transpired in favor of the Saints, as the team churned in an extremely disappointing 7-9 season. Even with a division performing so poorly, the Saints could not simply capitalize on the misfortunes of others. When things were handed to them on a silver platter, they could not get it done. In the end, the Saints season could be summarized as being over promised and under delivered.
While we attempt to put the events of last season behind us, we look forward to what 2015 has in store for the black and gold. However, there’s a few things we would love to see happen and fixed during the offseason.
Call it a New Orleans Saints offseason wish list, if you will.
