The New Orleans Saints have officially placed two of their players, running back Pierre Thomas and defensive end Akiem Hicks, on injured reserve. Head Coach Sean Payton announced the move earlier this afternoon in his press conference.

PT Cruiser finishes with 222 rushing yards, 378 receiving yards, and three total touchdowns in eleven games this year. Hicks, who arguably had one of the more disappointing seasons as a member of the Saints (he was pegged as a breakout candidate by many in the preseason), churns in 42 total tackles (27 solo), 2 sacks, and 2 pass deflections in fifteen games.

Thomas is currently locked up until 2016, while Hicks has two more seasons left with the black and gold.

Linebacker Jerry Franklin and wide receiver Brandon Coleman were added to the active 53-man roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move, and center Michael Brewster was added to the team’s practice squad.

I leave you with one note on the media press conference on Rob Ryan that you might find interesting:

The Saints travel to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday to close out their disappointing 2014 season, and Payton has stated that this won’t be a game of ‘backups’.
