The New Orleans Saints roster moves are far from finished, as we’ve just learned that the team has brought in kicker Garrett Hartley for a workout as per New Orleans Advocate writer Nick Underhill. ESPN’s Adam Schefter also confirms the move.
Workouts are routine for any ball club, but it’s interesting to see that Hartley working out for the Saints. Shayne Graham hasn’t exactly been bad, as he’s 18 for 20 in field goal attempts, but the questionable miss against the Carolina Panthers Sunday might have triggered this. Graham’s two misses this season have come from the 40-49 yard range, and he only has one 50+ yard attempt this season (which he made against Atlanta).
Whether or not this is meant as a ‘scare tactic’ from Sean Payton remains to be seen.
Hartley, 28, has not seen action since his release nearly a year ago by the Saints on December 17, 2013. He struggled in 2013, only making 73 percent of his tries last season (22 for 30 on field goal attempts), and was replaced by Shayne Graham, who later beat out Derek Dimke for the Saints’ kicking job this season. Hartley worked out for the Tennessee Titans back in August.
No official roster moves have been announced, but it seems like more are on the way after the team’s plan to part ways with troubled receiver Joe Morgan, and the reported benching of safety Kenny Vaccaro.
