Coach Sean Payton boldly refuted the recent report by Jason LaCanfora (which we carried) on rift with Rob Ryan. He also refuted the report by Ian Rapoport that the Saints were ready to draft a QB high in the draft to replace an declining and aging Drew Brees as well as the Adam Schefter report that the Saints were considering signing Ray Rice. The press conference was vintage Sean Payton–fired up and honest. He stated reporters must come up with Sunday “splashes” to get clicks on a Sunday morning, and these reports do not come out on Thursday when no one is surfing for information. Payton also stated he is fired up on the sidelines and the camera will normally pan to him and Rob Ryan because of Ryan’s position as defensive head coach. He told reporters the camera could just as likely pick him up yelling at players, Joe Vitt or Greg McMahon.

Sean Payton said you can learn a lot about coaches and players when things go badly. Payton told reporters Rob Ryan is there until the crickets leave, and was very complimentary of Ryan’s efforts to make the team better.
