The New Orleans Saints have announced the signing of safety Jamarca Sanford on Tuesday afternoon, according to Pro Football Talk of  NBC Sports.  The addition of the defensive back comes as news just two days after CB Keenan Lewis injured his knee during Sunday’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Sanford was released by the Washington Redskins two weeks ago after spending his first five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.  Since being selected out of Ole Miss in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft, he has started in 44 of 73 games played, tallying 269 combined tackles, 11 passed defended, eight forced fumbles and two interceptions.

Hopefully the signing of Sanford is unrelated to the injury to Lewis, whose knee was swollen to the size of a grapefruit in a picture taken at the hospital and posted to social media following Sunday’s physical contest.

Lewis is treating his injury like it’s no big deal, especially after returning to the field for a short time to play through the pain.  As the week progresses, we’ll be sure to keep the Who Dat Nation updated with any news regarding Keenan Lewis or the rest of the team.
