This might be one of most bizarre events to transpire for the New Orleans Saints, but Coach Sean Payton has announced that wide receiver Joe Morgan has been placed on the reserve/suspended list.
Many are pointing back to Morgan’s tweet from this morning as an indication of this impending move.
This is a suspension by the team, not the league. Under the criteria of this move, this occurs when a player has been suspended from the team for a set amount of games for potential unacceptable conduct. There are usually no injuries to the players on the list.
"The reserve suspended list is intended to save a spot on the team’s roster for a player, but does not include the player on the active team. The player does not travel with the team, appear in uniform or get paid to attend games. The “reserve” section of the title means that their spot is still saved on the roster for the future of the season."
As it further points out, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was placed on this at the beginning of the 2010 for his actions off the field.
Tom Crabtree returns again to the Saints lineup, but has yet to see action this season. This could spell the end of Joe Morgan and the Saints, as his contract expires after this season. Morgan was arrested back in May 2013 for a DUI, and has only been active in one game this season.
At this point, we can only speculate.
