Last chance for Mark Ingram?

It’s time for Mark Ingram to show who he really is: is he a bust or is he on his way to redemption? A lot of Saints fans already have their answer since Mark Ingram looked nothing like a first round pick in his tenure with the Saints. Until the end of last season.

Over the last four games of 2013, including the playoff games, Ingram ran like he never did before in the NFL. Even without looking at the numbers (which were very good nonetheless) you could tell that Ingram was running hard, running with a purpose and with the intention of finding quickly the right gap, pound the ball in there and not go down after the first contact. Something we hardly saw him do earlier.

This “new” Ingram (known on Twitter as #AngryIngram) continued to impress when the 2014 season (his contract year) started. Against the Atlanta Falcons in week 1 and the Cleveland Browns in week 2 he ran for 143 yards, averaging 4.6 and 7.5 yards/attempt respectively. He scored three touchdowns on the ground and had four receptions for 22 more yards. Just when we thought he was turning things around, the bad news arrived: Ingram has an injured hand and is forced to miss four weeks.

He came back last week against the Detroit Lions…and we all know how that went: 10 carries, 16 yards, no TDs. To be fair, no Saints running back was able to do anything against a stout Detroit front. But no sign of #AngryIngram whatsoever.

Tomorrow is a big day for Ingram. Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson will not suit up and he’s gonna get the majority of the touches as Cadet will be more involved in the passing game than in the running game. Green Bay is allowing 147.9 rushing yards per game. It’s time to show who you are, Mark.

Do you think Ingram can turn his career around or is he done?
