Saints had a tough time this afternoon in Cleveland. New Orleans Saints versus Cleveland Browns had some great moments with Jimmy Graham catches and Mark Ingram runs, but fell short in controlling the clock during the waning moments of the game. Some disturbing moments came as the offense sputtered during the first half, big plays given up by Patrick Robinson and less than stellar play by the defensive line.
Think Patrick Robinson will continue his inconsistent play even with help but what answers are there out there unless Brian Dixon comes along quickly? Some poorly timed defensive penalties also robbed the Saints of an opportunity to take and maintain a lead. There are some communication issue on both offense and defense both of which may be contributable to Drew Brees and Jairus Byrd being out during the preseason.
This may be a season when the Saints may catch traction at the season progresses but, at present, the Saints are sputtering at critical junctures. The one truly great bit of progress at this point in the season is the running game and less pressure on Brees. But there is still too much pressure on Brees. Routes are taking too long to develop, and the lack of repetition with Cooks and Stills is showing. Not time to give up but there is a room for concern.
