Eight days remain, Who Dat Nation! Today, I know much of the attention centers around the New Orleans Saints cutting the roster down to 53 players. However, we continue the Top 10 portion of our two-week series that focuses on my Top 15 players heading into the 2014 Saints’ season. The end result? A date with the Atlanta Falcons. Today’s selection: Marques Colston

Birthday: 6/5/1983 (31 years old)
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 225 pounds

2013 Highlights & Notes

  • Played in 14 games
  • USA Today All-Joe
  • 75 receptions, 943 yards, 12.6 yard average, 2 100-yard games (Dallas & Carolina), 5 TD
  • Played in 66.6% of team’s defensive snaps (750 of 1,127 snaps), led all wide receivers

Whether you refer to Marques Colston as the ‘Quiet Storm’, ‘Mr. Reliable’, or just plain old Marques Colston, there’s always a lot to love about the Saints’ receiver. The nine-year veteran may have been unable to crack the 1,000-yard mark this past season, which hadn’t happened since 2008 (when Colston was hurt), but became the Saints’ all-time leading receiver during the 2013 campaign. Alongside quarterback Drew Brees, these two have become quite the duo, and are most certainly a top five combo in the NFL.

2014 Outlook

Marques Colston is completely healthy, and that’s a scary thought. He’s arguably Drew’s top target outside of tight end Jimmy Graham. At 100%, there’s fewer wide receivers I’d rather have catching passes from Drew Brees than Marques Colston. Look for Colston to return to form for the black and gold, and perhaps have one of his best years on the team.
