Prior to joining the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey was already a Super Bowl champion. He was on the IR (injured reserve) list at the time and made no significant contributions to the offense that season. Shockey went from being the highest paid tight end in the NFL in 2006, to being traded to New Orleans for a second and fifth round pick in 2008.
Shockey’s reputation for being a vocal, brash, but oft-injured pass catcher may have worried some, but Shockey was determined to have success with his second team. He became an effective weapon for the Saints during their Super Bowl run catching 48 passes for 569 yards and three touchdowns, including a crucial touchdown in the Super Bowl against the Colts.
The two-time Super Bowl champion went to the Carolina Panther following the 2010 season, where he turned in another effective season. After retiring from the NFL, Shockey filed for divorce after being married eight months to Daniela Cortazar-Shockey. According to TMZ Sports in 2013, Cortazar-Shockey claims that Shockey is pretending to know nothing about his finances to avoid paying alimony.
