The Saints love using running backs in the passing game and they have some pretty fast backs that can be effective. Traveris Cadet and Derrick Strozier are fast backs that can be utilized in this manner if they can start proving themselves on the field.
Cadet is tough and fast but he is going to need to exhibit patience in finding good holes to run through. I see him operating as a flex back in certain packages.
Derrick Strozier is a fast back but I’m interested to see if he fits the mold of a receiving back or is more of a balanced runner. I believe if he proves himself to be effective in special teams that will keep him in the queue for a special package or play designed to utilize his ability.
Tim Flanders is going to be the back to watch for a couple of reasons. He had three seasons of 1,000 yards rushing or more so this guy can carry the rock. The Sam Houston State product reminds me of undrafted Pierre Thomas because he is very humble off-the-field and hungry when he is on it. I honestly don’t know if his ability is going to be enough to earn him a roster spot, but he’s got a fighting chance. He will be back to watch heading into Saints training camp.
