There isn’t a ton of information to bring to you today Who Dat Nation, but let’s just be thankful we did not have any injuries to report from OTAs yesterday (see Domenik Hixon of the Chicago Bears & Sean Lee of the Dallas Cowboys). Here’s the news items for today:
Ramon Antonio Vargas | The Advocate | Keenan Lewis sees Jairus Byrd as ballhawk
"“I’m scared to have him back there,” Lewis jokingly said of Byrd at a recent charity softball game. “I’m pretty sure he’s going to make (getting seven interceptions) real hard for me.”"
I’ll gladly take a friendly challenge for ‘most interceptions’ on the Saints roster this season. It’s good to see these two mesh, as they should be spending the next several years together in the Saints secondary. If I’m any opposing quarterback facing the Saints this season, I’m sure there will be some second guessing with these two on the field.
Mike Triplett | ESPN | Saints sign Weaver, release Givens
"The New Orleans Saints signed offensive tackle Jason Weaver and released receiver Chris Givens. Weaver (6-foot-5, 305 pounds) is a second-year pro who spent time on the Miami Dolphins‘ practice squad last year and also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cincinnati Bengals in the 2013 offseason."
Chris Givens was a promising find out of school, but injuries plagued him. He’s actually been on the roster since 2012, but it appears the Saints cut ties with Givens. The move makes sense, as the Saints have a very crowded battle at wide receiver this season. As for Weaver, the hometown player has as good a chance to make an impact on the Saints offensive line depth chart as anyone else.
