In the past few seasons, the New Orleans Saints have had some tremendous success with their high draft picks, most notably last year’s selection of safety Kenny Vaccaro. With the 27th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints have selected Brandin Cooks of Oregon State .

The Saints had several needs that could have been addressed at their respective spot (linebacker, cornerback, wide receiver mainly). The fact that the New York Giants took local hometown favorite Odell Beckham Jr. of LSU at pick #12 negated any hope for the team to land him. However, despite missing out on Odell Beckham Jr., the team made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to move up and draft Cooks, a speedy and talented wide receiver.

New Orleans Saints Positional Outlook (Wide Receiver)

  • Marques Colston
  • Robert Meachem
  • Kenny Stills
  • Joe Morgan
  • Nick Toon
  • Andy Tanner
  • Charles Hawkins
  • Chris Givens

Analysis: Cooks is explosive, boasting a 4.33 second 40-yard combine best performance. Cooks has elusiveness, quickness, and will fit the mold for the New Orleans Saints. With the team trading away Darren Sproles, Cooks should be quite an X-Factor for the team, and should give opposing defenses fits. Cooks will enter the scene easily as one of the Saints wide receivers.

Final Grade: A
