The Bucs wanted nothing to do with Darrelle Revis and his huge paycheck or inability to operate at an elite level in zone coverages. Getting rid of him made landing Verner possible, and ultimately it was the right move. Tampa does bid farewell to one of the game’s top corners, but Verner is a stout starting corner in his own right and will come in and make sure the Bucs pass defense doesn’t drop-off too much (or at all). The Bucs also added the talented Mike Jenkins as depth to help shore up their secondary.
