New Orleans needs to upgrade over David Hawthorne at inside linebacker and it’s big enough of a need for the Saints to at least consider reaching here in the first. They would obviously love Alabama’s C.J. Mosley to slide this far, but he’s an elite inside linebacker and will probably be gone within the first 15 picks. There have been whispers about his draft stock being slightly overblown, though, so him dropping isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Wisconsin’s Borland is a more likely option, however. Borland isn’t an elite athlete by any means, but he’s actually as balanced as inside linebacker come, being able to effectively cover, as well as help out in run support. Borland would fill a big need and if the Saints are high on him, this spot in round one wouldn’t be all that much of a reach for the rising Borland.
