New Orleans Saints Pre-Free Agency Recap

Until now we’ve read about all kinds of rumors but tomorrow the real madness begins: the NFL free agency period will officialy open. I thought it might be helpful to write down a recap of every transaction of the New Orleans Saints in the time span between the end of the 2013 season and the beginning of free agency.

Coaching Staff

QB coach Joe Lombardi joins the Detroit Lions as the offensive coordinator; former Tulane QB coach Mike Neu hired by the Saints to replace Lombardi.

Pending Free Agents

QB Luke McCown (UFA)

FB Jed Collins (RFA)

WR Joe Morgan (RFA), good chance he stays with the team

WR Robert Meachem (UFA), good chance he stays with the team (1-year deal is the most likely scenario)

RT Zach Strief (UFA), likely to be re-signed even if he becomes a free agent

Franchise Tag

Team uses the franchise tag on TE/WR Jimmy Graham. Graham got tagged as a tight end ($7 million salary), team expects player’s agent to file a grievance.

Salary Cap

NFL increases the salary cap from $123 million to $132, 996, 000. Team currently has $2,154, 240 in cap space, according to
