Good Pick: Carl Nicks (OG)

Payton proved to everyone that he had perfected the art that is stealing offensive linemen from the later rounds of the draft with this pick. The Saints selected Carl Nicks with the third-to-last pick in the Draft and he went on to two pro bowls and the Super Bowl with the Saints. The Saints couldn’t afford him after the 2011 season and he signed with NFC-South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bad Pick: Sedrick Ellis (DT)

There’s something about players from USC. They don’t quite live up to the hype surrounding them in college. This is certainly true of Ellis. He was never able to dominate the line of scrimmage like he did in college.

Missed Opportunity: Aquib Talib (DB)

This would have been a great pick with the seventh overall pick. He was one of the top conrnerback prospects coming out of the NFL draft that year. He was voted defensive back of the year in 2010 and went to his first Pro bowl in 2013.
