The Saints Lose Starters on the O-Line, Yet Again – But BOTH Leave This Season

Sorry Who Dat Nation, but the Saints track history doesn’t bode well for the team to keep a starter on the offensive line, and this season it could be both starters, Zach Strief and Brian de la Puente. Just take a look at a few of the pieces lost by season.

  • 2013: Jermon Bushrod (Bears)
  • 2012: Carl Nicks (Bucs)
  • 2010: Jon Stinchcomb (Retirement) & Jonathan Goodwin (49ers)
  • 2009: Jammal Brown (Redskins)

Now obviously, you can argue that Jammal Brown wasn’t exactly a tough loss for the Saints, but as for the others? Well, while suitable replacements were found, it still begs the question as to how long the Saints can keep this trend going.

The Saints enter the offseason with an extremely unfriendly cap situation, so to boldly predict that the Saints will keep both of their linemen set to become unrestricted free agents is a little far-fetched.
