Fear The Beard, Fear the Hair, Defense Shuts Down Cam

Just as everyone thought, it was the Saints defense that would like the dominating force, rather than the Panthers. The Saints defense only gave up 239 total yards to the Panthers, averaging only 3.9 yards per play.

Cam Newton would go 22/34 for 160 yards and a touchdown pass. He’d add 6 rushes for 48 yards. The big thing, however, was the 5 sacks on the night. Newton lost a total of 49 yards due to the sacks, which was fueled by 3 from Junior Galette, and 2 from Cam Jordan.

The duo of Galette/Jordan is proving to be something fierce, as they have combined for 20.5 sacks on the season. Galette has a career best 9 sacks on the season, while Jordan has a career best 11.5 sacks. The Saints are now tied for 2nd in the league with the Chiefs in team sacks with 43. The Bills are currently 1st with 44 sacks.

I can’t say enough good things about the defense, and making the adjustments necessary to play this game. It was a great team effort, and this was the defensive showing that the Panthers were expected to display going into this game, not the other way around.
