Defense Makes Thad Lewis a Human Rag Doll

The tone was set from the first play of the game, as David Hawthorne hit the stuffing out of Thad Lewis, and forced a fumble that eventually Junior Galette would recover. Hawthorne finished statistically as the Saints leader in tackles with 8 (all solo mind you), sack, tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. I keep saying it, and I’ll continue to say it, but David Hawthorne is playing some of his best football right now. Quietly, he’s one of the best players on the field right now for the Saints defense.

The Saints were credited with 9 total QB hits. David Hawthorne, Parys Haralson, Glenn Foster, and Keyunta Dawson were all credited with 2, while Corey White got the other.

As far as sacks go, Hawthorne, Galette, Jordan, & Foster each had a sack. The Saints forced 3 fumbles on the day (Hawthorne, Jordan, White), and recovered 2 of them (Galette, Jordan). Keenan Lewis also added an interception.

The most encouraging part of this defense is the fact that many players are making plays, and it’s a lot of new faces. Most of you probably don’t know who Keyunta Dawson is, probably because you don’t read my articles or intel, but if you do, you know all about him. The Saints are getting quality production from just about everyone on defense right now.
